Impressions: Rockband

3 hours into Rockband and calling in sick tomorrow
I know I’m late to the party, but I just got rockband and I’m already planning out my new rocker life.
As an avid Guitar Hero 3 player, I was skeptical of Rockband. People said the guitar doesn’t play as well, songs are not as exciting, etc. I have to say that playing the drums while chilling in a Ikea POÄNG Chair is the best experience I’ve had in months.
The game took a bit to set up. Mainly this being the calibration. I highly recommend you spend some time with quick play and the drums to get it feeling right. Once you get the calibration set up you can get your rock on.
The drums are a bit tough to get used to, particularly that base drum pedal. Easy mode is definitely recommended for starters. In about 1 hour time I was feeling confident with the basic rhythms.
The guitar feels a bit sloppier than guitar hero, so if your looking for Rockband to be Guitar Hero 3.5, your looking in the wrong place. The mic is great!
Although I only sang a few songs so far, its really helpful to be able to see the note flow and pitch. They show you were are you in comparison to the key, so Its really helpful. However I must say that if you get stuck with a song that is high pitch, it can be a bit odd to be singing the part an octave lower.
The only drawback that I’ve noticed thus far is that everyone fights over who gets to play the drums. I think I’ll be playing this game for a while.
