Capcom vs. Tecmo
Unfortunately this post is not about a new 2D fighting game from Capcom. It is, however, about an interesting interview that was featured in the April issue of EGM.
Ever since Ninja Gaiden appeared on the original Xbox, fans immediately compared it to the Devil May Cry franchise—many considering Ninja Gaiden to be the superior action game. With Devil May Cry 4 bringing the franchise back on track and Ninja Gaiden 2 coming up in June, this debate is once again heating up. More after the jump…
In the ever-entertaining “Afterthoughts” section of EGM, Shane Bettenhausen interviews Hiroyuki Kobayashi, the producer of Devil May Cry 4. When asked about the aforementioned rivalry, Kobayashi responds: “The Devil May Cry 4 team does not think that the Ninja Gaiden team is our competitor. In our view, our only competitors are the titles that we have previously produced.”
Of course, this is a typical, safe PR-friendly answer, but let’s face it, these two titles are vying for the honor of being the premier action game of the modern era. Team Ninja’s head honcho, Tomonobu Itagaki, certainly realizes this and is known for being openly critical of the Devil May Cry franchise. June will be an exciting month indeed!
